Origin & Terroir

Origin and Growing Conditions

Ethiopia is the genetic origin of all Arabica coffee, home to representing a breadth of genetic variation found in no comparable region on earth 10,000 documented wild varieties. Our family's farm sits within the western forest belt of Ethiopia one of the last ecosystems where wild Arabica grows naturally under native forest canopy.

At elevations between 1,700 and 2,100 metres, the Godere Forest delivers the conditions that define specialty coffee: consistent rainfall of 2,000–2,200mm annually, day temperatures of 25–28°C, cool nights of 15–20°C, and deep red, well-drained fertile soil. This environment produces Arabica with strong origin character, clarity, and complexity.

The Gambella Region remains one of the least commercially saturated coffee origins in Ethiopia meaning the terroir is intact, the varieties are diverse, and the coffee is genuinely distinct from better-known regions like Yirgacheffe or Sidama.

Sustainability & Community

Sustainability and Community

Our family's farm operates within the Godere Forest ecosystem, and responsible land stewardship is treated as a long-term obligation not a marketing position. Coffee production here is integrated with the natural forest environment rather than grown in opposition to it.

The farm provides stable employment for local workers in the Majang Zone, supports community livelihoods in the surrounding area, and is managed with the goal of preserving the forest biodiversity that makes this coffee exceptional in the first place.

Our Rainforest Alliance Certification reflects these commitments but the practices come before the certification.

Certification

Rainforest Alliance Certified Farm

Our family's farm in the Godere Forest is Rainforest Alliance Certified, reflecting a commitment to sustainable agriculture, biodiversity conservation, and responsible farming practices across the 3,000 hectare estate.
